Mercedes V250d Extralong in Taormina.
Black Mercedes V250d Extralong: 5.37 metres, eight black leather seats and a 1,410-litre boot that extends up to 5,010 litres. The 2+3+3 configuration spreads the passengers over three rows, while sliding doors and tinted rear windows make getting in comfortable and keep the second and third rows private. The trim is Avantgarde. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel of 190 hp and 440 Nm, with a 9-speed automatic gearbox and rear-wheel drive, is all about smoothness: 0-100 km/h in 9.5 seconds and a top speed of 204 km/h matter less than the fluidity with which it moves through traffic. During the Salone del Mobile it is the vehicle for moving eight people between the hotels in central Milan and Fiera Milano Rho, with sample collections and bags in the boot and no second car to coordinate.

The drive we recommend
From Taormina towards Etna: 58 km along the SP92 dell'Etna, through Linguaglossa and Rifugio Sapienza. This is where the Mercedes V250d Extralong is at its best — long bends, good surface and room enough to feel what it can do without having to rush.
When to come
The best window in Taormina runs aprile-ottobre. Around Taormina Film Festival and stagione del Teatro Antico demand concentrates and cars are gone weeks ahead: if those are your dates, book early.
